Parents..overall we wrestled well. Considering we have had only 4 real practices I can say we did wrestle well. With that being said, I see many areas we can improve as a coaching staff and as wrestlers and we will improve as a coaching staff and wrestlers!
The one thing I ask of you to stress to your kids is that they wrestle hard and compete. Nothing beats effort!!! As far as my technique I am a big believer in the basics or should I say the fundamentals of wrestling. You can have all the junk moves in the bag but when it comes down to it everything goes back to the basics: good stance, good conditioning, hand control, keeping your head up, set ups, good hard pentration steps when shooting, tying up an arm on while your opponents is on the bottom, standing up with your head and your back straight on your stand up, etc. I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea.
As I mentioned we did a good job, for the amount of time we have had practiced. We will improve and we will get better. I can gurantee you that.
Last, this pertains to everyone but especially the junior high kids, conditioning. Wrestling is a sport that requires you to be in above average shape. As with any sport to excel you have to do extra and conditioning is one of those areas in wrestling that can make the difference in being an average wrestler or an above average wrestler. So having your kid do extra running, push-ups, squats, etc. might be the difference between winning some tournaments and not winning some tournaments.

For only being at it a week we wrestled pretty good. This tournament was a good way to knock off the rust and see what we retained from last year and what we are doing this year.
As for this week, the Monarchs Wrestling Club will have practice as normal except for Thursday due to the Thanksgiving Holiday. On Sunday, for those of you lucky enough to be staying in town the club will be heading to the 25th Annual Holiday Open Wrestling Tournament held at Millard North High School. This is a good tournament for us to see how the kids are progressing in the club and to see what we need to work on. This is also a good time for Grandparents or other relatives that may be visiting for the holiday to see our wrestlers live.
As always if you have any comments, questions or concerns please feel free to contact us.
